THE PLAYER'S GUIDE

About Punch-Out!!

This is Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream for NES. Guide Little Mac through boxing matches by watching each opponent's openings, dodging attacks and answering with a well-timed punch.

The game

Timing before button speed

Missed punches use hearts, and running out leaves Mac temporarily unable to attack. Watch the opponent, dodge and then respond, rather than throwing punches continuously.

This edition

Mr. Dream and Mike Tyson are different editions

The USA file on this page is Punch-Out!! featuring Mr. Dream. If you are looking specifically for Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!, use its separate page in the related games below. The title of this edition does not promise Tyson as the final opponent.

Start here

  1. Start a circuit or enter a pass key

Choose NEW for a fresh run, or CONTINUE if you have a pass key from a cleared circuit. Write down the pass key when the game gives it to you; it resumes a circuit rather than an exact instant.

Original controls

These are the original game's controls. For keyboard, controller and touch settings in this player, see Controls & help.

Body blows, jabs and uppercuts
NES A throws a right punch and B a left punch; hold Up for jabs to the head. Left and Right dodge. Start throws an uppercut when you have a star. Here the default keyboard uses Z for A, X for B and Enter for Start.

Playing tips

  • Two ways to resume

An original pass key and the player's Save state are different. A snapshot can preserve the current bout, but stays in this browser on this device. Keep only saves a link to the game page.
