THE PLAYER'S GUIDE
About Crazy Taxi
Crazy Taxi turns a city cab shift into a race for the next fare, with impatient passengers and traffic making every trip a small adventure. This Sega Dreamcast edition suits players who enjoy quick decisions behind the wheel: choosing customers, finding a way through crowded streets, and making a spectacular arrival count toward the day’s earnings.
The game
Two clocks, one fare
Your working day lasts until the main game timer expires, but each passenger also has a separate deadline. Miss that deadline and the customer leaves without paying. Successful deliveries earn a distance-based fare, plus a money bonus calculated from the passenger’s remaining time. Under arcade rules, quick service also extends the shift: a Speedy delivery adds five seconds, Normal adds two, and Slow adds none.
A little theater in traffic
Passengers reward more than efficient transportation. Jumps, sustained sliding turns, and close passes beside other vehicles can earn tips. Successive tip awards build a combo that raises their value, while a collision with another vehicle breaks the chain. That gives ordinary traffic a second purpose: every crowded stretch offers both an obstacle and an opportunity to increase the fare.
This edition
The Dreamcast routes
Arcade mode uses the course from the arcade game, while Original provides a course designed for Dreamcast; both follow the same rules. Crazy Box adds separate driving challenges, including balloon bursting, precision deliveries, and a distance jump. This is a single-player edition supporting the original Dreamcast Controller or the optional Rally Wheel.
Start here
- Choose a short practice shift
Select Work for 3 Minutes, then choose a cabbie. This fixed-length option gives you a manageable first outing without time bonuses. On the menus, use the Analog Thumb Pad or D-Pad to move between choices, A to confirm, and B to go back.
- Stop beside a waiting customer
Look for someone with a dollar sign overhead. Bring the cab to a complete halt inside that person’s circular pickup zone. Boarding happens automatically; the clock keeps running while the passenger gets in.
- Complete the first delivery
Check the destination picture and distance when your passenger boards, then follow the arrow’s general direction. At the destination, stop fully inside the zone bordered by green walls so the passenger can exit and settle the fare.

Playing tips
- Read the customer before committing
Favor red or orange dollar signs while learning your surroundings: they indicate shorter journeys than green signs. Also compare pickup-circle sizes, which communicate relative trip difficulty.
- Practice a deliberate launch
Try Crazy Dash on a clear stretch: release both triggers, select Drive with B, then squeeze the accelerator just afterward. Practicing that sequence separately can help you launch cleanly when a fare begins.
- Give sliding turns some room
To practice Crazy Drift, move forward, quickly select Reverse and then Drive, and steer left or right. Start somewhere spacious so you can learn how much room the sliding cab needs before attempting it near a destination.
- Use the challenge instructions
Before attempting a Crazy Box event, press Start on its selection screen to read its advice box. Use the stated goal to focus each attempt on one skill instead of treating every challenge like a normal fare.
