THE PLAYER'S GUIDE
About Donkey Kong
This Donkey Kong page runs Ocean's 1986 Amstrad CPC version in the browser. Mario climbs toward Donkey Kong, avoiding the hazards of the construction site. Start here if you are looking specifically for the CPC adaptation.
The game
Climb without losing your footing
Watch the route ahead before leaving a ladder or jumping a gap. Walking off a platform or falling too far costs a life. A short pause to judge an obstacle is often more useful than rushing toward the top.
This edition
The CPC computer edition
Use the controls and start sequence for the Amstrad CPC version listed here. Instructions for an arcade machine or a console cartridge may not match this computer edition.
Start here
- The first screen is a disk launcher
After choosing Play now, a file list appears before the game itself. Select a file with the arrow keys and press Z to launch it. This is the player's CPC startup step, so an unchanged file list does not mean Mario is waiting for a jump command.
- Then follow the game's input prompts
Once the game opens, follow its keyboard or joystick selection prompts. Computer games can need keys that are not on a compact virtual gamepad; use a keyboard if your chosen touch layout cannot answer a prompt.
Playing tips
- Save after reaching the game
Once you have finished the startup steps, Save state can keep that point for a later session. It remains in this browser and device; Keep adds the page to your list without saving the running CPC.
